When I first listened to Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures”, all I felt was chaos and complication. Through that chaos, there was an unknown, and my aim was to express that “unknown” in a simple and iconic way. It had to be subjective, everybody should have their own idea about what is behind that cover. I tried to express this unknownness by using only photography and typography.
